I drew this picture from a still from the movie ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES. I got the still itself from CAGNEY BY CAGNEY, James Cagney's autobiography. Here, Cagney's a gangster holding a gun to his old friend, a priest, played by Pat O'Brien.

And in real life they were the very closest of friends. Part of what was called "the Irish Mafia" which incuded Frank McHugh (another frequent friend of Cagney's in movies like FOOTLIGHT PARADE and THE ROARING TWENTIES) and Lynn Overmann. Spencer Tracy was also a member for awhile, but he and Cagney drifted apart - partially due to work and partially due to Cagney's increasinly conservative political views (shared by O'Brien). However both Tracy and Cagney always admired each other's work as actors in film.
